Imagine sitting in another country, having been away from family and friends for months on end .... How would you feel?
Now imagine you received news that a family member had just passed away .... Now how would you feel?
You are able to get the time to go home but have no means financially to get home .... How are you feeling now?
For our service men and women in the U.S. military, this is not an uncommon scenario. For most in a similar situation, all they want to do is to hug their family and grieve with them.
Recently, a member of the U.S. Army lost his grandmother while he was stationed in Africa. All he wanted to do was go home and be with his family. He was able to get the time off but had no means to buy a plane ticket to go from Africa to home and back. Discouraged, he searched online if there were any organizations out there that would help a soldier in a situation like his. What he found was Helping Heroes Fly.
Helping Heroes Fly is an organization devoted to help service men and women with no means to visit their family. This is tragic for both the servicemen and for the families at home who haven't seen their child/spouse/parent in months. With many military personnel only getting paid meager wages, this has happened far more often than you think.
Helping Heroes Fly started as a non-profit just this year. Their dedication to help our military is amazing. Already, they have bought over a dozen tickets for servicemen needing to get home. This holiday season will be their first as a non-profit and they expect many travel requests.
